The Spiritual Sleep Diagnostic
12 honest questions. The man who needs to wake up rarely realizes it on his own.
Why This Diagnostic Exists
You can be near the things of God and still be far from God.
Spiritual sleep is sneaky. It does not announce itself. It accumulates slowly, like dust on a windshield. You do not notice it until you cannot see clearly anymore.
This diagnostic was developed from years of mentoring Christian entrepreneurs and leaders. It identifies the 12 most common signs that a man's spiritual life has fallen asleep — even while he attends church, claims faith, and looks the part.
For each statement, answer YES (this is true of me) or NO (this is not true of me).
1. My prayer life is reactive, not relational. I tend to pray mostly when I need something.
2. My Bible is more decorative than directive. I own multiple translations but read them rarely.
3. My worship is performative, not transformative. I sing on Sunday but cannot remember a line by Tuesday.
4. My obedience is selective. I obey God in safe areas and ignore Him in expensive ones.
5. My identity is fused with my output. My worth rises and falls with my performance.
6. My peace depends on circumstances. When the market is up, I am at peace; when it is down, I am anxious.
7. My closest friends do not actually know my real spiritual state. I have curated a public faith.
8. My wife knows the truth about my walk, but I would not invite her to speak it openly.
9. My prayers are scripted. I repeat the same phrases without engaging my heart.
10. My devotional times feel like obligations more than invitations.
11. My theology is intellectual. I can argue doctrine but cannot say when God last spoke to me personally.
12. I am functionally Christ-less in 90 percent of my week. I rarely consciously include Him in my decisions.
